I am finishing up the build on my 99 Miata. I have read the threads on drilling a hole to remove the spring, I see that is for the NA's. Is there a different process for the NB's? I am a little bit hesitant to just start drilling a hole without verification.

Thanks.

Nope, drilling the hole works fine on the NB as well. It's what I did when I built my car.

Nice Blog Tom. I poked around but did not find the reference to the steering wheel.

Sorry about that...fixed. Try this:

Pix 4, 5, 6.

PS: Thanks for the compliment. Just like the car, it's a work in progress. I'm trying to fix the gallery, right now. I didn't envision having quite so many pictures, nor how unwieldy it would be, if I did.

Thanks for the pics Tom, now if only I could get the stuck key out of the switch. [banghead]

I just did this on an NB. I drilled a 5/32 hole, smaller than what Tom did, but the same idea. The threads I dug up said to make sure the key is in the ignition and turned on before drilling. Then I put a self taping screw in the hole and it worked as advertised. The key goes in and out without issue or locking. I'll attempt to get a picture uploaded.

Sorry I can't figure out how to post a picture. After looking at the pictures posted above, I drilled my hole on the side, perpendicular to Tom's hole. ???? I am guessing the same thing happens just a different approach.

I had the same problem. On the bottom of the lock case, if you look carefully, you can see (with a mirror)where if you turn the key you can see the tumbler turning. With a pick I was able to turn the tumbler at the same time I turned the key back to the off position.

Glad you found then useful. First time I've given something back! Bummer about the key though.

Key finally came out. Ant ideas on how to stop it getting stuck again?
