What happened on the start of the Sunday race for the ITx (group 5)? I was working corner 17 and all I could tell was the 43 White with red and blue strips spun off the track while going straight before the green flag dropped? What a mess. And then during one of the restarts, the massive pile up between 17 and 16 where it looked like 42 Black/red Honda CRX turned into the cream 1st gen RX7, the CRX was lucky that he only disabled one other car. The VW TDI came in early with its nose out of shape, not sure what happed to him. And 11 Red Miata looked like a refugee from a war zone. Again, not sure what happened to him/her. On the last lap, 22 Silver/green Miata looked like he was dragging something important but still managed to finish under his own power.
In the SM race, what was the final ruling on all of the leaders passing under FCY? And yes, I know the car they passed was way off the pace, did that factor into the ruling?
Congratulations to the Freshman class members who had no contact and stayed on the track the whole weekend. Did anyone besides Lee pulled that off?
Added: And great driving in the lead SM pack, you guys were the best of all the race groups all weekend. On the fear on missing someone, Congratulations to Trevor, Taylor, Caesar, Steve, and I think Adam rounded off the top 5. It was great fun watching Trevor passing lap traffic and then Taylor getting blocked again. I counted at least 3 times that Taylor was blocked by a lapper. And I learned a new line going into 17, as Trevor was late braking and wide, I was getting the Yellow ready but he somehow pulled it off. WTG

We were thoroughly admonished. That's the last I heard about it, but I haven't seen an official results page.
I got great video of the last corner incident but the resolution on my camera was set too high and I can't get it to play on my computer to edit it. It looks GREAT on my flatscreen. Anybody have any tips how to correct that?

Cam, ITx race, 43 miata jumped the start so the green flag was held, he had no place to go so off he went. The green/silver 22 (Frog) was draggin her sprinfield dyno exhaust as we passed you, managed to get it all the way back to the Sweeper flag station before shutting it down because it was wedged between the frame and tire. I didn't know what exactly was wrong and kept looking for the meatball but it was never shown to me, didn't matter because I was going to pit anyway if I could.

I had to download the Divx player for my PC to view and edit hi-res video. It is free and works really well.

Lee,
Yes, the Houston regions SCCA will post the results on mylaps and are usually pretty good about doing it in a timely manner. Just keep checking as I would expect them to get it done for you guys fairly soon.

Here's video from the Jetta of the restart during ITx. The RX7 driver protested David Hedderick for aggressive driving, which I believe was dismissed. It was David's first club race weekend after going to the December school, and the Jetta 'was' brand new.

David had no place to go, it appears the RX7 didn't have much of a choice either as the CRx was out of control and the RX7 chose to go to the outside of his spin just in time to catch him coming back. Novice opinion.

Video from my in-car has been uploaded to Youtube. First clip is of the start. Second clip is of one clean but slow lap. Please give me constructive criticism. Final clip is of the restart and my passing of the 9 car.
Steven: I can help you compress your video to a manageble size. I'd really like to see the finish from your perspective. Try using http://www.yousendit.com/ to post the file and pm with the link and I can download it and work on it.

First of all congratulations on having a clean race weekend and getting a step closer to your SCCA regional race license.
These questions usually bring lots of advice, some good and some not so good. With that being said, here's my advice. Based on the video, I would have to say you are on the brakes too early and late to get on the gas, both of which are very important in keeping the momentum going in a 100 HP car like ours.
Going Clockwise into turn one I'm normally full throttle before I make the right turn back to to hit the apex leading onto the front straight. From the video I see you are not even getting on the gas until the car is headed down the straight. And when you enter turn 17 you are on the brakes way to soon. You would be faster through 17 and 16 by hitting the brakes HARD (later) to slow down and then turn in rather than coasting into the turn.
Seat time, practice and coaching will get you up to speed sooner than anything else. Bring your passenger seat to DE's and get a good SM driver to take you for a few laps to see what the car can do. Good luck and hope to see you out soon!

Lee: In fear of posting another shameless plug to my site, I'd say try watching some of the other videos on YozoY and compare. I think there are 1.50 and 1.51's there that you can look through and see where you are leaving time.
off the cuff you are breaking too early and you are not getting on the gas quickly enough throughout.
1. I do "the launch" in 4th gear and wait for the left hander before going to 3rd. This lets me carry more speed through the launch. I have a tendency to slow down too much if I go down to 3rd before the launch -just my personal preference, others may disagree.
2. on the Keyhole stay tight to the inside and get on the gas right before the dip (keep the gas on the floor)
3. On Diamonds Edge you need to go to 2nd gear.
4. on the carrousel, find a comfortable line. Look for the last cone on the right bring the car in and look for the inside (left) apex if you find it you should have your gas pedal on the floor all the way down to end where you go to 3rd (look for a marker).
You'll get a lot from watching a few videos. i hope you find them useful.

I got the video converted to a .wmv and can play it, but STOOPID win moviemaker won't create clips for it. AAAARRRGGGGH!! It's almost enough to make you go Mac!
Mr. Pro driver made a really low% move on Taylor in the last turn...lefts on the curb, rights in the grass.

Congrats to Trevor for his wins! I had a great time battling it out with you. Great pass in the rain!
Chris & Lee - Nice to meet you guys.
Michael - Good to see you and your dad again.
Cam - As far as the pass under double yellow all four drivers who passed the lap car did not see any flag till the front straight. The car we were lapping has radios and was most likely told about it when the pace car started up. As far as lap traffic I did get the shaft a few times but it happens to us all and what can you do.
I dont think I have to say anything about the last lap incident, the videos pretty much sums it up.

Thanks for posting the clip - even though I dont know the drivers, I will say it is great to have so many cars so close on the last turn of the last lap - this is what makes SM the class to race.
That was ugly, last few corners or not. I have seen a car hit that pit wall pretty hard, it is a dangerous spot. If I were a steward, that would be a instant probabtion at best. blatant disregard for others safety

Taylor, good seeing you again and we are very happy to see you made it out of that last turn, it would have been terrible if you had not made such a great save.

Definitely a good save by Taylor!
Definitely not a good pass attempt w/ 2 on the curb and 2 on the grass...and that's all I have to say about that.

Last lap radio silence. All F&C are suppose to be quite on the last lap expect for emergencies or led changes. If it would have been any lap other than first or last you would have been meatballed.
And as others said, great save Taylor. Sorry to see that you had to use those skills but good thing you have them.

Ok let me jump in the bandwagon of the "great save" I'm certainly glad #51 saved it. I could have been t-boned and thrown against the wall...nice work! Like I said, #51 had it dailed in all weekend rain or not #51 and #90 were solid.
For what is worth....great save by Trevor as well on Diamonds edge, when he and Taylor got together. (#90 has a future in drifting for sure)
They opened the door for me for a brief second and it was almost a repeat of a year ago....I wasn't that lucky this time and the door closed almost as fast as it opened.
What happened on exit out of diamonds edge was enough to opened the door for #8 to catch up, I had a nice gap on him at the last lap. It's the last lap, It's racing, I'm sure we all want to win but let's not get crazy and take each other out. I'm glad we had "Great Saves" all around.

Correct, F&C share one channel and Control is keeping track of the time and number of laps. Control tells Start who to throw the checkered flag on. It is important for Start to know which car really is the lead car. If corners workers are calling stuff in, then Start might not hear who the current leader is if there is a change. EVs have their own channel but the EVs do not call in track changes and often do not see things happening on the track. So, during the last lap, F&C is only suppose to call in emergences or lead changes.
Change of topic but still related, not sure if working F&C has made be a faster driver but it definitely has made me more aware of what is going on.

Yeah I've worked a corner (not my cup of tea) and hung out at control and it was very interesting. Lots of activity on the radio throughout the race...lots of smart-assy people too.
