Does anyone have any information on AMP? I live in California but a house was purchased within the family in Peoria, AZ so I have been looking to see what's around and came across AMP. It looks to me like it was an active race track a few years ago but then the area closed it down and it has just now reopened, true?
For anyone in the area, or in the know what's the deal with it? Do they host events? Do they allow testing? What's the condition of the track like?
I'm probably going to shoot them an email, but when I visit AZ I would love to bring my car and drive there. I'm just not sure how things work... If it's just one car do you think they would let me pay a normal track day fee to use the track since no corner workers or medical would be necessary?
AMP is dead in the water. There is litigation in progress to get it reopened but I would bet it will be settled out of court and the operator will be reimbursed for some part his development costs (rumor has it that is 6-8M). The loss of this facility has really hurt both the road racing and autocross community locally as track days continue to disappear at Firebird and PIR.

The thing with Firebird is you never know. There are various rumors that the lease is up in 2009, 2010 and 2013. Bondurant has their school adjacent to the track of course with a large investment. And there are 3 casinos within a few miles already. And several more in the valley. It will be interesting to see what the tribe does with the lease and the land. At Christmas for the last few years a part of the track land was rented out to this awful "Santa's Wonderland" thing. It was by I-10 and created a terrible traffic jam.
