Congratulations, you deserve it. Clean, quick driving all night in real sloppy conditions during the night.
Mazda dominated this weekend. 1st and 3rd in E3, I think 1st and 3rd in E2, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in E1.
Team Hooverspeed had cars in E2 and E3, both on the podium. Thanks Marc, Sean, Tim and the rest of the team for a great car and support.

3rd in E3 in a 1.6 Miata. Built by Hooverspeed. No problems day or night and great pit stops. The Miatacage team was just quicker than us.

Big congrats to Team Miatacage! You finally got a rainy 25 Hour race, and the result was no surprise. Everyone questioned why the Honda CRZ's were in E3, and was happy they got beat. I'm sure Simon Pagenaud is proud to display his 2nd place trophy from when he got beat by a Miata. Priceless!

Thanks All, I can say that this is one of the biggest deals I've ever had the pleasure to be part of.
We knew what we were getting ourselves into and we were well prepared and up to the challenge. We also knew we had a chance and as in the past, made all our decisions based on going for broke winning strategy.
With Honda bringing two cars that were capable of beating us by more than 2 seconds a lap, the strategy and driver lineup of Ken Sutherland, Will Schrader, Jonny Davies (and me ) was a key factor in winning against this full factory backed campaign.
The results were amazing, with the MiataCage.com and Honda Performance Development team finishing on the same lap, in 8th and 9th overall, many laps ahead of the 3rd place team and ahead of many faster classed cars. The bar had been substantially raised this year and we were certainly not caught off guard. Our preparation for this race started in in early spring and many hundreds of hours were spent with one goal in mind.
Our crew chief Brian Clemmons, former talented SM pilot, matched wits with HPD for fuel, tire and driver change strategies to the nth degree all the way to the last hour when it came down to Jonny Davies matching driver talent with Lawson Aschenbach.
We had faster tire changes and fuel stops and made less mistakes, and as the race progressed we started to see them copy some of our methodology. Very Cool!
Many thanks to all our sponsors, Toyo Tires, Midas, Northwest Superfinish, InspiredSalts.com, Wyatt Fire Protection, FatCat Motorsports, Hood River Coffee, Fast UnderCar, SMI Motorsports and Ed Pavone.
But many many thanks to our very good friend Sean Hedrick and team owner at Miatacage.com for his support. Without Sean this would have never come to pass.
Sean spent the last 7 hours spotting for me and Jonny on the back straight when in one of our pitstops the rear view mirror shattered. Sean missed being at the wall for the checkered flag lap. That is just the type of guy Sean is!!!
That is just one of the amazing stories, I'll try to share more soon, or you can follow the entire pre and post race musings of Brian Towey at http://meettheroad.wordpress.com.

quote: The CR-Z racer has a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder 1.5-liter engine producing an estimated 175 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. Turbocharger comes from BorgWarner. The Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system for the racecar includes a nickel cobalt magnesium battery of 173 volts and a ‘push to pass’ system initially introduced on the Indy cars. The IMA adds another [estimated] 25 horsepower and 65 pound-feet of torque to the engine.
The engine uses an HPD-produced ECU and dash display; there is an HPD limited slip differential and HPD performance clutch. HPD have ‘circuit tuned’ the springs, dampers and antiroll bars for racing purposes. For aerodynamic efficiency, HPD produced a front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing.
Why was this car in E3 with a 175 HP turbo plus a Push to Pass button? No wonder it was faster then my teams 1.6 Miata.
Way to go MiataCage team, I'm impressed

Having just heard the full download from Will, I think my favorite anecdote is how Ken Sutherland ended his 3+ hour stint by jumping out of the car and performing a right rear brake job... with his helmet still on!
It's rare that the words "studs" and "miata" are used together, but I think this is a case that warrants it. You guys are rock stars!

+1 The Oregon boys can drive in the rain! After early time penalties for spilling gas I think Honda might show up with a different pit crew next year...but I don't see how they will stay in E3. Also congrats to Hooverspeed for their 3rd place in a field of 22 E3's
As part of the Integri Team and 3D racing who combined efforts I want to thank a great bunch of guys for an incredible 4 days. At the 22 hour mark Integri team was in position 3 with a comfortable lead over position 4 when we got caught up in another cars spin(no one seems to want to go 2 feet in during a race )which sent us to the paddock for 30 minutes of repairs and an eventual 5th place. What was crazy was the 2nd Honda CRZ finished a respectable 4th after spending 30 minutes or more on its roof in turn 2. 3D Racings car(Scrappy!) lasted through 2 wrecks, 25 hours and 2 minutes when it blew a rod on the cool down lap and was pushed back to the pits by the Integri team car I can see why this event just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year...great fun. Congrats to all who finished and to those who made the effort!

Brian did a fantastic job of planning, and executing stratagy. It is not easy to formulate a plan of action for an enduro, as I know from past experiences in enduro's. So as one crew chief to another my heartiest congratulations on a superb job.

+1 on the pie Juan. They were fantastic!!
I think for the most part drivers were courteous and patient...but I don't think any Miata or slower car didn't at some point find themselves taking evasive action when a faster car dove an apex or pushed us off an exit. The trucks seemed to be the worst. It would be nice to know if NASA officials penalized on track driving when observed from a few of the chuckleheads out there. They also allowed at least one car on track that had no business being there...it was a rolling road block and created some intense incidents early on. There should be some sort of minimum lap speed rule(dry conditions).

What color and make was the rolling road block?

So I had the amusing job of running the red and yellow lights from 3-6AM. Glenn Stasky who designed the system recruited me so he could get a few hours sleep.
I had prime view of all the offs in T3. There were literally 5x more offs in T3 than all the other spots combined. Although none of those resulted in safety car periods, of which there were at least two on my watch.
BTW, the red light at the end of the back straight was not part of Glenn's system. I think that was to indicate closed of the pit lane. I heard one car stopped there, thinking it was a red flag indication.

I'm not good with car types but it wasn't a miata. It was white and green or green and white...maybe a Honda Fit?? I don't think it saw 70mph and braked to 50mph in turn 1 I think it was lapped as it completed it's first lap!!!! But in looking at the results no car was slower than 2:15 so maybe it was just the first driver of this car that had issues.

It was the Ford focus, a friend was driving it... he only had 3rd gear (shift linkage broke) and the cam was a tooth off, so it had no power to boot. After he complained sufficiently, they brought him into fix it.
