I'll bet it's at least 90% the same as the first race, but maybe not in that order assuming all passed tech....

Without being there, and just looking at what the paper says, parity seems to be doing alright in NASA. One of each car in the top 5. With the supposed "crap car this year" (Na 1.8) P1.

I agree the three most popular cars are close, but I don't see an 01-05 in the hunt or for that matter in the hands of a driver capable of winning it. Seems that car could still use some assistance.

Until a top notch driver shows up with a top notch prepped car at a big race, how can we tell if it needs help or not. I don't think there is enough data to know with so few people running them.

That's the point, if the car was competitve by the current rules one of the top drivers would be running it. And why the hell does it matter how much the car cost. I got my donor for 5K, which I am sure is close to what many paid for a 99. There is a "full prepped" car in the field with RE power and everything else to match. It was sold by a "top driver" in my region to a new guy. Why did this top driver sell the 01 to build a 99?

So what I am taking away form this is screw the few people that are running them...Why not try and make the car competitve for the few that are stuck with them. Do you think I can dump this car for what I have into it? Not gonna happen. So like all of you would do, I am trying to get the car I built up to speed. I have seem plenty of lobbying on this site for changes, but because there are so few of these cars being raced they get pushed to the side. I'm just doing what any of you would if you owned this particular MY.

Believe me, I wish a top driver would have shown up with a VVT car. I would be the first guy in line at the shop that built it. Until then I will lobby to make the car more compettive. I think a 45mm RP is justified and hope that NASA and the SCCA will agree.

I'm sure you won't like this response. If it were up to me, I'd make the '01 run with a 39mm plate and at 2750 pounds so nobody would run it. It's tough enough to get parity and tech among 3 varieties of cars now. Classifying it in the first place was not a good idea IMO.

Tyler,

I understand your pain. But for me, I have seen absolutely no data that the 01 up cars are not competitive under their existing rule set.

So you have to understand the reluctance to agree with one opinion its an underdog. The last thing the class needs is the SCCA to make an adjustment and suddenly make the 01 up cars the hot ticket and then everyone starts building those.

Let me share some data. An associate in TX built an 01 car to try two years ago thinking it would be the better car. He could only get it within 2 hp of his 99. He gave up on the project. The club then increased the RP to 43 from 41mm. I have been told by a very knowledgeable builder that a 2mm increase in id is about 1.5hp. So the only theoretical and dyno data that I have knowledge of in order to form an opinion says the cars are pretty even.

To get a rules change, there has to be some hard data for the club to weigh.

Regards,

I watched the race on speedcasttv.com
It was a great race, Andrew Rushing got past Lamb and they stayed 1-2 for a long time, but Dean Thomas was inching up litle by little and finally got in Todd's draft and drafted up on him and then passed him, The last lap was hairy with lapped traffic, Rushing drove absolutely Fantastic as did Dean Thomas. I think if Zimmerman woulda been up there at the start he might of won. Karl Zimmerman was flying..

Thank's everyone for the congrats! It was truly an awesome week. The local Utah guys treated us all so well, and the camaraderie between the drivers and teams was great.

I've got nothing but good things to say about the guys I ran with in the final race. It was all clean, and andy put on a clinic on how to lead a race. Todd was within inches for most of the race and Andrew was unflappable.

The Miller facility is incredible. NASA put on a great show. They were always on time and communicated well with the drivers. As for tech, they weighed us, pulled ECUs, pulled throttle bodies, and fuel samples. They told us to be prepared to pull a rear shock, but then never asked to do that. They kept our TB and ECUs. They crawled under the cars on jackstands for a long time, too.

Thanks to Laura who convinced me to go to the Nationals, thanks to john pagel of Evil Genius Racing who made it possible and thanks to my team members Dr. Dan, Dan G, jeremy and bruce for all the support all weekend.

Cheers,

Dean
