The Jersey Racing Board (Northern New Jersey and South Jersey Regions) and New Jersey Motorsports Park have reached an agreement to conduct The Devil in the Dark 12 Hour endurance race on NJMP's Thunderbolt Circuit. The initial race under this agreement will be held on Saturday, 19 June 2010 and run from noon to midnight. Plans are underway to hold a family friendly spectator event at the track during the race with live entertainment, food and beverages.

This race is intended to replace the traditional 12 Hours at the Point race which has not been renewed by the Washington DC Region. It is anticipated that the schedule and rules will be very similar to the Summit Point events. The entry package will be posted on the DLB online registration system ( http://www.dlbracing.com ) by the end of the year. Registration will open in early spring 2010.

We haven't completed a budget for the event but our target is around what was charged for last year's event.

Hope you can make to The Devil in the Dark ... we are aiming for the same high quality event

Terry.

Sorry to see the 12 hour at the point go...every time I drove it was a lot of fun....see if they will tell you why it failed to attract drivers when just a few years back there was a waiting list. Entry fee is part of the reason...but there must be more.

Hope it works for you and the region. Good luck...we marked the date.

Registered since registration opened on March 1 and looking for more SSM cars to race! [thumbsup]

I've run the Last Chance enduros at Watkins Glen since 2006, and this is my first step up into the big-league enduros. With a friend, we've essentially rebuilt the car, and compiled a solid team.

I'm going to shakedown the car at Lime Rock this weekend, run the June 4 test, and then it's off to the race. Can't wait 'til June! [Big Grin]

Hopefully registration numbers will climb as we get closer to race date, but does anyone know if there's a needed minimum number of cars? Couldn't find anything in the supps except a general cancellation statement. Final payment is due in a couple of weeks....

Can anyone tell me why there seems to be a lack of interest in this event from the Summit Point crowd? I heard people complain about the 12 Hour last year being neutered by the lack of night racing. When DC Region decided to drop the event the Jersey Racing Board, consisting of South Jersey and Northern New Jersey Regions, decided to pick up the ball. They have returned to the noon to midnight format. Many of the officials are the same ones who have worked the event in the past, including the Chief Steward, so competitors can expect the same consistancy and operational excellence that they have seen in previous years. The track is behind this heavily. Excellent publicity on their website and email list. One of the track owners is entered, co-driving with the track Operations Director and a two time Formula Atlantic national champion. However, the entry count is about the same as last year. As far as I can see, no cars from Meathead, RP or Windsor. I'm not trying to point fingers here, just want to know why. There is also a noticable lack of workers coming from WDCR which is kind of disappointing considering the help that they received over the years from South Jersey and Philadelphia Region members.

Agreed with you Brian, would love to see more of the WDCR folks up here. I can't speak to the politics. Hopefully the Jersey racing board won't be too discouraged.

The date is terrible. This weekend MEATHEAD Racing has drivers competing in the NASA Hyperfest and 24 Hours of Lemons, then we race the next three weekends straight with MARRS 5, Nelson Double and Watkins Double the same weekend as the NJ/MARRS race.

Endurance races need to be either VERY early or late in the season. Unless you have a dedicated enduro car nobody wants to take their car out of service for the time needed to prep the car for an endurance race and then the time needed to refurbish it.

The economy is not the issue, the date is. We are racing more events this year than any previous year with what looks like a good contingent going to the VIR 13 hour.

What Joe said

Brian,
We had several that were interested but it is a very busy time of year. Graduations, back to back race weekends. Some drivers that were looking into running it said it would be the 12hr or drop a few races- they chose to run their series for points...

If it had a 6 hour tied into it that would have been better $ but still around lots of events.

I think Grammer is also having entry trouble running a 6hr at SP when there is a race at NJMP.

In a perfect world all the events would be spread out. Until then, one must choose and play the lottery.
