Thirteen cars so far. All of last year's podium finishers are back, the Miatacage Oregon boys are in, AMG/Mazdaspeed have two cars in the E2 sandbox this year, a couple of Norcal teams are showing up, plus it looks like Runoffs champ Gorriaran is bringing the gorilla show all the way from the Atlantic coast. [Smile] [yep]

I can't wait! Everybody run legal, drive clean and play nice. [rockband] [group hug]

See y'all there.

The lap record for SM is immaterial, as all of these cars are not running in SM trim. I have to imagine that the 1.8's (Gorilla and 3D) are unrestricted, running Hoosiers and are much lighter than SM rules. Not sure what class Gorilla mapped to to get into E2, but I'll bet it's not SM. PTE? ITA?

Local SM's have run 2:05's over the top, which is typically about 1.5-2.0 secs slower than the bypass configuration they're running for the 25 Hour.

Steve's 2:03 is VERY impressive, but the 3D guys have run a mid 2:04 with the same unrebuilt motor from last year's 25 Hour victory in the car, so it's not that surprising.

The MC guys broke a half-shaft and the guys Brian trashed in his blog last night (Hoover/AMG) after an incident between their cars loaned them one to get back on the road. Racing camaraderie at its best.

Cheers,

Dean

Did I read this right - Steve ran the entire 25 hour race SOLO?????....DAMN he must be in tremendous physical shape!!! Absolutely stunnig achievement if he did!! Has to be a record on many levels. And I understand that Steve is no spring chicken either. Gives hope to all us greybeards on the track!!!

Absolutely unreal. I've got HUGE respect for that effort. The physical endurance is only part of it. I cannot imagine the mental endurance to stay focused that long - through the night, traffic, etc. etc.

And then he's cracking off super fast laps AFTER 20+ hours in the car???

WOW.

Would like to clarify that Hooverspeed and AMG are two completely different teams that are just pitted next to each other. Hooverspeed ran two Miata's, while AMG was running two Mx5 cup cars. Two different team principals, two different crews.

mat - Last I heard, 1st and 2nd degree burns on hands and arms (mostly hands from the pic I saw) and they were hoping he'd be released this morning. Not sure if that happened.

At any rate, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Makes me wonder if our gloves are not stout enough compared to the rest of our safety gear.

last gorilla update... [Sleep]

crew all packed up and back at the house. Gorilla acutually drove himself back to Sacramento and took the redeye back to the east coast.
Came away with the E2 class win, weight and restrictor checked at tech.

Yes, we ran Hoosiers on the car.

This truly lofty accomplishment would not have been achievable without the efforts of the 7 person crew. David delGenio & Jonah delGenio (Driven Performance) Dave Woodle (DWW Motorsports), Shawn Dewey, Leos Kubec, Dave Loring, Dan Malek. I don't think this year or event result will be easy to duplicate.

One heck of a year for the Gorilla! National championship, now a single driver, 25 hour class win.

We were met with a round of applause by our pit lane neighbrs during our last fuel stop, battling a failing RF hub. Thanks to our Mazda pit neighbor hospitality from Robert Davis Racing. Quite a difference as one of their teams was a 25 driver effort pitted next to a single driver effort. Lots of disbelief once the news of a single driver winning E2, let alone finishing the full 25 hours driving alone.

Thanks to all who posted and stopped by during and after the event with congratulations. [rockband]

Best wishes to Charles for a speedy recovery.
