New MAZDASPEED Paddock at Road America (SCCA Runoffs)

Mazda is very pleased to announce that today Mazda Executives approved the paving and construction of a new paddock area at Road America for the exclusive use of Mazda competitors. The new MAZDASPEED Paddock and Tom Thrash Memorial Paddock Tent will be located inside turn 14. Construction will be completed in time for the 2010 SCCA Runoffs. The paved area will also be available for use by Mazda competitors at future events at the Road America facility. The MAZDASPEED Paddock will be 60' x 300' in length and will provide Mazda competitors with a much larger paddock tent (240' in length) and parking area than we had at last year's SCCA Runoffs event. The Tom Thrash Memorial Paddock Tent will include lighting and power.

We are working with Road America right now on the layout of the new Mazdaspeed Paddock. The plan is to eventually have our own hot pit entrance!

can someone provide better details on this? are mazda owners allowed to use this space as their base, or is it a space that you would use in case you need some repairs? is it just a parking space? i have never been to the runoffs, and am not familiar with what this offering actually offers.

My guess is that it will be the paddock/garage area for all mazda teams.

Mike (et al)

At the Runoffs, Mazda has always provided a large tent for our racers to paddock under. Now we have a permanent location at Road America, allowing us to increase the tent size. The Tom Thrash Memorial Tent is 240'x40' and will have power and lights.

There is a sign-up sheet on our Mazdaspeed site (www.mazdamotorsports.com). If you are going to the Runoffs, please fill it out whether you plan on paddocking in the Mazdaspeed area or not. It really helps me with head-count for the banquet. I wouldn't want to run out of beer or anything!

See you there!!!

Tim, another bit of useful information would be what size out of tent parking is available for each tent spot. Trailer, trailer/puller, trailer/motorhome?

Great job by Mazda. [thumbsup]

Just want to say "three cheers for mazda and mazdaspeed" for their incredible support for all levels of racing both technically and socially. From what I can tell, no other manufacturer comes even close.

The ENTIRE Mazdaspeed paddock area is 500'x95'. This includes the 300'x60' asphalt pad (most of which will be taken up by the tent) and 200' of level grass. It's located along the front straight, starting about near where the Turn 14 exit curbing ends.

Kinda hard to cheat when everyone is under the same tent. Therefore, by logical reasoning it is clear that anyone not under the Mazda tent is a cheater. [Big Grin]

Being the only person to have actually seen the new Mazda layout, it is BIG.

I was at RA on Monday and they had 9 pieces of earth moving equipment going to town.

A couple corrections on Tims drawing
The "new access road" is actually about 3 years old.
There is another access road, also about 3 years old, approximately where the semi is parked.
If any of you saw where Tom Fowler (OPM) and I (Advanced Autosports) parked for the Sprints, we where at the 35' marker on the "existing access road"

Based on what I saw looks like paved access at 2 points and a grass entrance at the "not shown" access road".

In talking to track management, this area is reserved for Mazda racers ONLY. At all events throughout the year.

Should be pretty darn cool.

Dave

Mike A- I don't send out any confirmations. But I have you in the tent with your trailer parked adjacent.

All- There is still plenty of room. Not sure what the track is charging, but the Mazdaspeed tent or paddock area is FREE!
