My computer isn't up to the task of playing or editing HD (.mp4) videos that this new GoPro HD records. What viewing and editing programs are compatible with .mp4 format? My Real Player and Windows Movie Maker 2.6 don't recognize the format. GoPro hasn't been much help with this...

I use Final Cut for more involved editing and for converting the mp4 to other codecs if needed.
iMovie on Mac works fine and is easy to use as well.
But most of the time I'm just cutting down clips from the master file using QuickTime Pro. And QT is my preferred viewing application for the GoPro.
And to save space I only record on the HD GoPro in P3 mode. It's more than enough in terms of quality for in-car video without the giant files created in P5 eating up space. In P3 i got a qualify, spring race and 90 min enduro on one 16g card.
Hope that's useful info.....

I bought a conversion software program for $59. to convert my mp4. to a wmv. file which my 5 year old computer could handle. I think most of the issues with mp4 is the result of older and slower computers with less RAM. Also the latest version of windows movie maker will handle mp4, but my current computer can't handle the upgraded wmm program.
But, I love the GOPro HD camera. They sent me a free usb cable when my original one went missing...

I thought I had the latest version of Movie Maker but it doesn't recognize .mp4. I downloaded a 264u codec for it (which the camera instructions said to do), but it didn't auto-load to Movie Maker and I suck at computers so it's just sitting in a folder for now.
Buy a file conversion program, select the r3 record setting (I'm using r5 now) for smaller files and buy a MAC...got it.

Ack...so I downloaded a free trial version of the Sony Vegas blah blah software and it wants to turn my 1.2GB raw .mp4 file into a 37GB movie file! Not happening with my laptop or an upload to vimeo. I'll try the two listed above next...
