Hi there, Im trying to choose tires for an ITS RX7 running the 12 hour. I thought i would get some input from the RA1 gurus. If i can get away with one less set of tires by running RA1's vs hoosiers than all the better.

So as the rx7 is a bit heavier than the miata what are your thoughts on running the RA1?

How many sets to you guys who run miatas use in 12 hours?

what shave depth would you recommend?

Thanks for the input!

Track? We did a 12hour at Nelson Ledges and still had a bit of tread left when finished. I take that back, We used 5 tires. [Big Grin]

I've done multiple 12 hours on a single set of RA-1s. Start with them at 4/32nds and break in during a practice session. MAYBE need to replace a single side or front... IE left side/front at a track like Summit or New Jersey.

This year the race is at NJMP Thunderbolt.

Wow so with a miata you guys are getting by with only 1 set!?

sheesh given the savings i would be hard pressed not to go with the RA1.. By my calculations, i would need three sets of hoosiers based on how much life i get in regular sprint racing... granted the pace will be slower in the enduro.

You don't loose time changing tire either.

Matt, are your tires wearing out (i.e. showing cords) or are they "heat cycling" out (i.e. getting too hard). If they're heat cycling out, you'll get more life than you think based on sprint races. If they're wearing out, its probably not that far off a comparison.

^^ Typically 'heat cycled' out although to Matt heat cycling out is far more worn down than most... so I'd say his guesstimation is fairly accurate.

Both are available in Toyo and I have Hankook in 225/45R15 and BFG in 225/50R15.
