Will there be no end to the special treatment Ferrari gets in F1???

After watching the Monaco Gran Prix and reading the reviews of the penalty and rules that are all over the Web, I think that Shumacher and Petronas were right.

Poorly written rules that allow racing from the entry of the pit lane after a "Safety Car" combined with green flags and green lights that were displayed upon entry of the safety car it would seam to me by all indications that you can race to the checkers - Why throw a green flag if you can't race?

Why would you recall the safety car on the last lap anyway???

I think if Alonso would have made the same move on Hamilton that it would have been allowed to stand - and maybe that was what they were trying to set up??? [scratchchin]

Any other opinions?

Using the Green Flag wasn't a good idea, they should have continued under the yellow if they wanted a parade. It looked like both cars hit the gas, Alonso just spun the tires a little more. That said, it appeared the guys in front of them knew what the intended finish procedure was going to be. Was radio comm. an issue?

I didnt understand what Schumi was doing? I also saw Alonso nailing the gas. Not a Schumacher fan at all, but with the green lights on, I can't see the penalty. Worse case, restore the order, but not a 20 second penalty. You can't expect the driver to recall every rule in the book in a split second, no safety car and green displayed, most will go.

As far as communications goes I understand that many of the teams told the drivers that they could race to the checker - it appears that Shumi was the only one that was able to catch the guy in front of him out.

F1's fault all the way - according to the rules as they are written there should have been no penalty - let the other teams protest if they want - and you know they would. Then they could change the rule and move on.

F1 better get it together - this seams more like a local dirt track event than the worlds premier racing body...

And just so you don't think I'm a Ferrari or Alonso hater - I was yelling at the TV for the first half of the race telling those guys to stop blocking Alonso...

He said that they broadcast "Pace car is in, track is clear." I wonder if he will appeal.

Rule 40.13 states that "if the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pitlane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking..." Any teams that told their drivers to race to the finish line are idiots. And any teams that didn't tell their drivers to maintain position are also idiots.

Whether the green was waved is irrelevant since you can't pass before the start-finish in F1 anyway.

Does it deserve a 20 second penalty? Probably not, but there was definitely a violation.

True, except when I race I always assume that I know the rules better than the stewards/officials, because I have more to lose than they do.
