I just got done talking to Mazda and they told me that I cannot replace the U Joints, I have to buy an entire new driveshaft, I have checked all of the parts stores and nobody can get them. Has anyone else ran into this problem? If so, what did you end up doing?

Check PlanetMiata.com or Partsgroup.com. I replaced with a used one from partsgroup.com when the ujoint went. No issues with it even though it is recycled.

I've heard of the U-joints being replaced before (Solo Nationals in Topeka a few years ago), but you'll need to find an adventurous driveline shop I suspect.

And, if it's for an SM, it would then be an illegal-for-SM driveshaft.

I had this problem 2 years ago. I bought a new driveshaft from MazdaComp.

I believe the automatic driveshaft might be different but am not 100 percent sure. Might be worthwile to find out first.

My Miata was an automatic back in the "street car days", I swapped to 5-spd for racin (motor too)... Nevertheless, yes the transmissions are different lengths, but close enough to use the same driveshaft.

The U-joint replacement is Rockwell part# 430-10.
I bought a new set for $90 shipped from my local driveline shop.
They fit perfectly.
They used to be listed for Miata's & Some RX-7's.
Most parts houses have dropped the cross reference.
They found it listed for a Nissan pick-up.

Small correction to Bill's helpful info:

they are Rockford...not Rockwell branded.

So:

Rockford part# 430-10

Listed part for a Datsun 2wd pickup
