I'm replacing the paper gasket on the throttle body. Two questions:

1) how do you clean all of the old gasket off? The studs on the intake manifold get in the way. Do you carefully use a razor blade?

2) do you apply the new gasket dry, or with some kind of goop?

1) new razorblade. if you want gasket remover then razorblade.
2)dry or next time will be even more of a pain

I can't remember what that one is made of but one of the reasons I only buy gaskets from Mazda anymore is most of the ones parts stores sell made of paper, Mazda sells in metal. They are virtually impossible to screw up on installation, are incredibly reliable, and easy to R&R.

Yeah, the OEM gasket is metal. I've got one on each side of my 41mm choker.

miata must be different from protege because my oem gasket was paper.
