Am I the only one who read this and is confused by it?
I understood that the suspension upgrade was disallowed, but this reads like it IS allowed?

Listed right along with the adjustable fp/timing and swaybar collar adjustments.

Item 3. (August)
In 9.1.8.C.4.c, add: 90-97 cars are permitted to use the 99-05 suspension components including steering rack, front and rear
control arms, front and rear uprights, and front and rear sub-frames.

Probably a typo, but WTF?!?

May not be a typo. I know many 1.6 owners followed up to the disallowment with letters to the CRB. Last week I received an email saying that my letter had been received by the CRB and was under consideration. Maybe they changed their minds.

Guys, scroll up to the top of the Dec Fastrack (page 6) and read the decision of BOD regarding the paragraph you are referring to. Its dead for this year.

Well you got me all excited for nothing. Here is the complete statement from the Recoomended Rule Changed December document:

Item 3.
In 9.1.8.C.4.c, add: "90-97 cars are permitted to use the 99-05 suspension components including steering rack, front and rear control arms, front and rear uprights, and front and rear sub-frames." [Note: Not approved by BoD 10/16/10.]

I was confused the day it came out & I just read it again & am still confused. I read it to say you can under "CRB recomendation" & you can't under "CRB changes" therefore we need the secret code. [Roll Eyes]

Maybe the "CRB changes" over rides the "CRB recomended". [help]

My read is that the CRB recommended the rule change in August. In October the rule change was NOT approved. The final list of rule changes are the results of the votes on the recommended changes.

That's how I read it. It certainly would be clearer with the vote in parenthesis next to the rule.

Did someone say something about 1.6 needing help?

Craig has it correct...
no susp upgrade for 90-97 cars
open FP and timing for all cars.

So in case anyone missed it yet, the rules makers listened to this site (and other sources) and are forcing all NA owners to save money by not allowing mods which could make the cars more competitive and closer to even with the '99s. So now, if you want a competitive car, you can save all kids of money by having to buy a 99 and start over. And the 99 are now legally faster in 2011. Somehow, this logic makes sense. [Roll Eyes] [Confused]

And just to be clear, I am not slamming the BOD. Thank God for the BOD and the job they have volunteered to do. They have to put up with way too much BS trying to keep too many cantankerous racers happy.

I take it there's not much chance of the 94-97 taking weight out any time soon?

By my reading of the rules process, rules adjustments (suspension, motor, track width, etc) must go through a lengthy public submittal and commitee process and changes will be made typically only in Oct and Jan by the BOD. Surprisingly it turns out that Drago can't personally change the rules at will.

On the other hand competition adjustments (semantics?), typically only weight and restrictor size, can and are made during the year at CRB behest to account for inequalities in a class. BOD do not need to approve these changes. The SMAC has no decision making power but are strong influencers and thier recommendations are commonly followed. It's possible that 94-97 weight might change early in 2011 if the CRB chooses so, but I suspect not until a few races into the season and certainly not until the next Fastrack.

If you want the change, get all the 94-97 drivers to drive really slow for the first few races and then complain a lot. Seriously though, if you want the change, crb@scca.com is your friend. You won't get much sympathy here, I want less weight and more power in my 99, just my 99. [Smile]
