Mark,

Looks like they are moving it right in front of the Party Deck. Certainly would be a great viewing spot.

Expect 3-4 mph gain depending on the layout of the new chicane, only real men will stay flat down to the 80' marker ...
[Eek!]
P.S. the 1.6 & 1.8 gains on the '99 with this new configuration

Carlos, even with the old bus-stop, on a great lap, being sucked and pushed along in a 3 car train we would occasionally bump against the 7,000 RPM limit in 5th gear in the 99's.

The 1.6's and possibly the 1.8's which I believe also rev to 7200rpm will get more out of it.

The minute one of those overdog 1.6's pulls out of your said draft to pass those poor 99+'s, they will drop back right behind the 99+.... [Wink]

Danny;
stay in it another 600 feet and you will have gained a couple mph ... what revlimiter?
now,
put two strong 1.6's or the 47mm 1.8's together in a draft with this new chicane and say ...
bye bye to the '99

[group hug]
gotta know how to draft, ask the chipster, TBee, but not von C, he gets too anxious
[Big Grin]
Topeka should bring the RunOffs back to Daytona ...

Daytona was actually suggested as a new venue for the runoffs when the contract expires at RA next year.

With sincere apologies to my Florida SM brethren, Daytona is not the place for the Runoffs. The true road course portion of Daytona not withstanding, too much of the course is comprised of the high bank NASCAR oval. IMHO, that's no place for a championship road race series.

That aside, the geographic location disfavors all but South-eastern competitors. If the Runoffs were to be contested on a semi-road course, I would love to see the Indianapolis FI course host the event. But that too will happen when pigs fly.

Buckling on my flak jacket now. [duck]

and Road America is what? a tight autoX track?
actually, Sebring would be the perfect all around track for the RunOffs. Would bring the '99's back up to the 1.6's and 1.8's ...

Some of the SRF people claim to have been over 140mph in the draft at Daytona. We hit 120 into Canada on a good day at Road America.

I'd go to that Runoffs. But then, I just wanna go fast.

I personally believe that rotating the runoffs every year would eliminate the car of the year for the runoffs and would be a tougher challenge. You could rotate between Road Atlanta, Mid-ohio, The Glen, Daytona, Sebring, VIR, Laguna, etc.

That is what it ought to be. Do a 3 year schedule and roll it each year adding the third year each year after the run offs. Work on rotating throughout the country each year as well so each division gets to host.

No way, It is a major undertaking every time they move the Runoffs. Three years is the least amount of time the national staff would ever want to see it rotated.

Jim...we do it as a region...why can't the national staff do the same thing? Isn't that what we pay them to do all year? Each sponsoring region could help put it together with the division and national office support. You would have three years to organize the event. The first two after RA would have the short fuse...betcha Central Florida region could pull off the first year..... [yep]

It's not the region that bids on it, it's the track.

In what way is the second year easier than the first? Not like the club has done any good securing a meaningful TV contract for the runoffs lately, so that can't be it.

Is it cheaper for the club to put on in the second year? By how much? How many more entries would we get if we stopped trying to find some middle ground that works for everyone when the best tracks are almost all located on the periphery of the country?

Lance..that is how we do it now. The point is that we need to start thinking how it needs to be done in the future. The region could negotiate everything with the track if they knew in advance they would be hosting the runoffs. We work very closely with Daytona and Sebring to coordinate schedules in advance. The re-paving was a once in 43 years issue!

You know

I really like the idea of a different track each year. As said above it gets rid of the Car of the Year. And it also negates to some extent the previous years experience at a track for someone new to the nationals. (does not negate teh home track advantage to the local guy, but he only gets it once every 10 - 15 years, as opposed to 3 years in a row!!!)

And the really great part is that you dont want to miss ANY year.

Laguna Seca, Mid Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, VIR, Sebring, and so many more.... this
