CENDIV awakened from a long winter nap this weekend with a Double National at Blackhawk. I don't have the results at my fingertips, but Voytek Burdzy won both races and by a convincing margin today. No sophomore slump for him. He's in mid-season form and will be a tough competitor all year.
I also ran into Ken Kannard on Friday who bought a beautiful FP Miata at the end of last year. If anyone has the results of his weekend, please post them.
***Ken Kannard had a 2nd place finish in FP on Saturday and a win on Sunday.***
He had the Spec Miata out a couple weeks ago for a win in SM & a 2nd in ITA. Trying to get him to qualify both cars for the Runoffs. The 1.6's need to be there.

I don't know Dave. With 3 of the 4 remaining events at Road America, he'll have a tough time. He'll have to drive that 1.6 uphill for most of it.

For all you conspiracy theorists, ( and my buddy Dave Dewhurst) looks like the 1.8's dominated. 3 out of the top 5 on each day??????? Should we give the 99 a break??????
FYI, Tom Roberts won the Regional last week. Top finishing 1.6 cars, Brown and Urquiza are both in rental cars. Urquiza's first race in SM

Looks like nobody showed up with a 1.6? I won one of the singles last year with Harry 2nd, Voytek wasn't there though. Times seem off, was it damp out there?

Track was dry but slow, just lacked grip. Looked at data last night which confirmed this. Have seen this before at first race of the year there. Voytek and I were on RA1's, Harry was on 888's that were not worn out. Lap times from '08 - '09 (with the tire change) were nearly identical at this track so I don't think tire choice was a factor.
This is a good 1.6 track IMO. Over the years several 1.6 cars have run lap record or near times including a black and yellow one.

Why would they? If the SMAC continues on the current path, it will force a split in the class.
Maybe because I won one of the Nationals last year in a 1.6 along with owning the track record for about 16 months? I agree BFR is a decent 1.6 track. The only 2nd gear corner is in a very tight technical portion of the track so it doesn't cause problems vs. the 1.8's, and the '99's have trouble keeping tires under them because there's so little cooldown time for the tires, or at least that's what it looked like from the cheap seats watching the '99 I was racing against. Sounds like Voytek was the best wheelman with the best setup on the track over the weekend, and won. That's what's supposed to happen in SM.
So who wants to lobby to move the Runoffs? BFR is the funnest track short of Mid-O in the center of the country, and Mid-O is too far East. Plus the mosquitoes are smaller than the ones at Elkhart
The black and yellow one lives at Autobahn now. Its owner is suffering from extreme LOFT, judging by the mylaps results. At least it's still on track.
I had a blast out there this past weekend. I can honestly say that this was the most fun I have had since I started racing. (just started my 3rd season of W2W) I know that you miatas can out brake me going into the corners so no more letting up for you on the straights.
And boo for 7 and 95 for passing me under yellow.
Like I said, all in all a great weekend, besides me being allergic to my race suit.

Track record set last fall is 1:22.6 by a 1.6. Same session Voytek (1.8) did 1:22.7 and Tom Brown in my #95 (1.6) car did 1:22.8 Weather and track conditions where perfect, cold and snowing.
Everybody I talked to this weekend complained of no grip. Very windy caused a lot of dust, rain overnite both Friday and Saturday kept track green for both races.

This maybe a rookie question (I am a rookie), but was anyone using second gear at Blackhawk? I thought there were one or two places that may have called for it, but my data couldn't back it up.

It was a great weekend. Track was slow but competitive. The racing was very close. Ithink from 3rd to 8th qual was .118 of a sec. Track had no grip. I ran RA1's and had a push pretty much all weekend. But all said voytek just flat out can wheel a car. Fast all weekend. I wish I had some go-kart experience to give him a challenge, hahaha. He is going to be a tough cookie at the runoffs this year. As for the second gear ?, ther really isnt a place for second unless you get hung up somewhere i never hit 2nd

Rich you have sold your 1.6, you can quit beating the how fast the 1.6 is, unless your just trying to tell us how fast your were

Data is a tough thing to overcome, so let's tell someone who has it to quiet down because he isn't in the class anymore? Is that where that came from? I wasn't fast, I was competitive. In a 1.6, which went through the tech shed with the SCCA compliance team at the BFR weekend I'm talking about. There have been several 1.6 wins THIS SEASON, at BIG TRACKS. Therefore, the 1.6 is competitive.
The only reason I have to repeat myself is because of statements like "the CRB is destroying the class" which pop up now and then.
