just curious as to what kind of showing of miata's there will be. i've heard of 10+ attending the school, so it should be a huge crowd for the race.

look out you guys, lots of new novice's on the track. [duck] [fight]

Another rookie attending the double school. I am entered and will be there.
There is a video of the track at the midiv website under forum/club racing/super school roll call, scroll down a ways and the link is in the discussion thread.

David, Will probably be at Topeka. You are welcome to follow me, but would not advise it -- I thought you would want to be up at the front of the pack!!!! I may try different tires that weekend to decide what I will run. I ran Hankooks Saturday and Sunday in Memphis and was slower than I was on two year old Toyo's I used for track day on Friday. Maybe I need to change the car set up or just learn how to drive on them.
Looking forward to running with everyone soon.

Dick, is that how David H. got ahead of you? I'm trying Hoosiers this weekend at 2d Creek- I'll let you know how I like them (but I guess they're not eligible for Mid-Am?)

Don, He got past me on the last lap in the first of the 90's. I now have the new fender on and am ready for St Louis. Let me know about the Hoosiers -- they are not legal for MidAm but I may run them simetime to see if they are faster. Good luck!!

Just got a report from Kraft in St. Louis.

As of 9 a.m. on Friday, it's raining like a banshee.

50 or so cars registered in the closed-wheel school group.

22 are Spec Miatas.

Nothing like running a school on an oval/road course in the rain!!! Hopefully they will have enough fenders left to make it to Topeka next weekend.
22 Specs, now that is awesome!

just returned from st louis about 2 hours ago. met so many great miata drivers, got passed by many of them, and had a great time.

friday school was a wash, which was ok because it forced (most people) to keep their speeds down. sat school was dry for most of the day. really changed how you could drive the track. we snuck in the race on sunday about 15 min before the rain hit, just perfect for cooling off afterwards.

as for how i did personally, i was very satisfied.

goal #1 was getting my liscense: accomplished
goal #2 was not breaking the car: mostly accomplished
goal #3 was finishing the race on sunday: accomplished
everything else was just icing on the cake.

during the school i ran about 85% (goal #2 and all), and fastest time was a 1.22.8 i think, pretty slow. qualified a 1.22.5, bleh. during the race i ran the first half at about 90-95%, and ran a 1.20.01 or so, a decent time for me i think all things considered. qualified 22nd of 32 i think, officially finished 18. coming into 7 on the last lap the overflow hose blew off and was making lots of steam and water on my windshield, so i freaked and pulled into pits because i didn't know what was wrong. 3 cars passed me as i limped down pit lane taking the checker.

hey mike, what happened to your car, i saw you pull into pit about 2/3 of the way through the race?

dave - yes, it was your old CRX that i towed over with. that car is very fast, jim turned a 1.17 in it with a 1.5 motor out of DX.

thank you everybody for a great weekend. seeya in topeka.

Wait until Jim gets a 1.6 motor in it,he will soil himself.I loved that car and the power and pull that it had.His 1:17's were just right for the school, when he starts getting into the 1:12s and banging the ITE guys around he will be smiling in his race helmet.
I am glad things went well for him.

A 1:12.04 I think,I fully intended to get under 1:11.9 which is Stretch's record. The car has a new LSD and new final drive gear that should have done it no problem.

HAH! Yeah, that little CRX can run 1:13s and 1:12s when it's on. Kinda highlights the difference between our limited-prep ITA-SM Miatas and a full-on ITA car.

Hey, Y'all....race results are posted - I'm too lazy to retype:

http://www.stlscca.org/pages/roadrace/past/032804-5.TXT

26 cars in the group, 7 of 'em IT7....the rest SM.

WOW I can't wait for the weekend to get here.

Dick, I ran the Hoosiers last weekend at 2d Creek. Appear to be faster, consistent, and grippy. $142 each

Dick, there is evidence on my left rear bumper that helped me into the wall coming out of 7 on lap 15. There was a RX7 we were lapping at the time also. My brother took the car back to Memphis with him so he and Drew can work on it and finish the car from my initial build. I should be at the Memphis race at the end of May. It did enough damage to bend the radiator up a bit.
Thanks for all your help.
