No fee to enter, no prize except bragging rights. LOL

Culprit:
IT-spec 94 1.8. Haltech with significant dyno time. 13.0 afr across power band.

What happened:
Forced off the inside of No Name at LRP twice with all 4 wheels. Grass, not too bumpy. Not sure if anything got ripped off underside. Don't think so. Full power down front straight then oil pressure warning light goes off into braking zone and Dash 2 shows zero OP instantly. Zero power. No smoke, no holes, no leaks, full crankcase. Won't crank more than 1/8 of a revolution. Huge 'backward' compression noise at TDC of one of the cylinders.

Votes before we rip it apart?

Is the contest for who comes closest to the reason why it popped, or who popped their motor in the best way this weekend?

I can think of four miatas that could enter the "who popped their motor in the best way this weekend" contest

Stuck oil press relief piston, ate a rod bearing. Hated to see you go out the car was flying. Good to meet you in person after all these years.

Mark pointed something at your car going through right hander. Said his dad bought it on eBay.

He said it would look like something found it's way to the oil pump causing failure.

Or you could blame the Dash2. I could never get mine to work.

Wow, so it's contagious? [Frown]

What they said. I still don't know why mine spun #4 rod bearing. But I give up. This bottom end has been nothing but problems.

Interesting discussion, why did the oil pump break? Or did the spun bearing and resulting debris cause the oil pump to break? What would cause the oil press relief piston to stick?

Andy any updates?

Turns out my failure may have a few components.......broke something which lead to overheated motor......blown head gasket, rings cutting into walls, slighlty warped head, no compression, tons of leakdown. And we haven't gotten into the bottom of the motor yet. Timing belt was probably shot too as I kept jumping multiple teeth all weekend.

oopS

now decision time, junkyard or crate?
