John, any word on whether rookies will be allowed as co-drivers?

Also, are extra lights required?

C'mon guys, sign up! I want to supersize my combo.

If anyone has any questions about the enduro rules or if you think you might need crew help for pit stops, please PM me or post here.

To answer a few of the basic FAQs:

Rookies can run this enduro and most others. The only enduro I know of that doesn't allow rookies is the 25 Hour.

Auxiliary lights are not required. You do have to have your standard headlights and taillights working though. I recommend getting aux lights, but don't think you can't be competitive if you don't have them. During our second race weekend ever, we ran our first enduro, first night race AND first rain race all at the same time, using only the stock headlights, and came in 5th in class. And that was with a pit stop that took forever.

I also recommend reading through the enduro rules a few times, paying particularly attention to pit stop/fueling rules.

A couple of other mandates for pitlane: Two 5 lb fire extinguishers (Costco has them for $24 each). A bucket of water. And 5 lbs of oil dry. And the fueler has to have the same gear as a driver (with the exception of helmet--a fueler can use an SA95 helmet as long as it's marked)

Please don't let the additional gear requirements put you off. Enduros are a blast, and I can definitely help with some of the basic gear.

P.S. I think Mueller is looking for a co-driver for his car.

I think the consensus is that the rings are badly worn. I'm now burning about a quart of oil per race weekend. Oil is pitch black after one weekend. Still runs pretty good, though down on power.

Not sure of my plan yet... either 1. run it till it dies, 2. rebuild or 3. crate motor! [scratchchin]

Crate.

Rebuilding will likely keep you out of the action too long--then again the cost of a crate could keep you from racing financially. If money is tight and you don't want to stop racing, you could always get a beater motor to keep racing with while you rebuild your old motor.

Tough call.

+1 in the beater motor...

The bottom of my 1.6 is a $200 junkyard special with +180K on it... Last year I got a head from Meathead so power is the last of my worries. Plus, I've had a short-block on a stand for 3yrs waiting to be rebuild & I still see no reason to do it yet...

IMO keep racing & keep improving your skillz. Cuz from behind I can notice your improvement, blow-up tire & oil guzzling motor & all.

UPDATE: Things are not looking so good for us getting our own run group... We have 15 and need 5 more!

Having our own group is the only way to remove the bus-stop... So, call your race-mates and get them to register this weekend because after 8am Monday it will be too late (sched is being made Monday morn).

Also, I doubt there will be Supersize available for SM as we'll probably run with the PT cars.

2. Curtis Gong

4. Rob Burgoon

9. Jonathan Christian
10. William Christian
11. William Christian II
12. Tim Weaver
13. Ethan Tufts
14. Tyler Vance
15. Bill Nelson

If you've registered abut don't see your name here PM me and we find out what happened.

As a newbie, being down on power is certainly not my only problem, but it sure wouldn't hurt to have a nice shiny motor to race with!

See you guys next weekend...

Ethan,

We blew our motor at Cal Speed and were able to find a replacement on Craigs List with 15K miles for $750. It was a complete motor with intake, throttle body, header, down pipe, clutch, flywheel, etc so I now have a ton of spares. We will have to wait and see how it does at BWRP, but it can't be any worse than the 95K mile motor it replaced. It can't hurt to look...Seems like there are many deals to be had and pulling it out of the car was much easier than I anticipated. See you next weekend.

Add Bill Nelson to the the list John. he registered last week but for some reason it is not showing. he is talking to Eveyln.

I just got an email from Chuck and he is also going but is out of the country and wont be able to register till Tues nite.

that puts us at 16 so i'll bet there are a few stragglers out there to go yet.

Yeah, we came up short on the 20 cars we needed (18 @ making-the-schedule-time)... But Ryan was gracious to at least let us have our own race. However, we should not expect this in the future should we fail to get enough cars (20 at BW & WS, 30 for CalSpdwy).

Ty, this was suggested but too many folks don't want to... Heck some didn't even want to run Friday's practice on a different config. So in the interest of safety NASA wants us to go #13 all sessions.

What was the news from the weekend? Any excitement? (I have to race through these boards for now)

Sorry I missed it. I had a sick feeling of an expensive crashing of the '97 before the expensive building of the '99 was completed. (last time at BW was a $5k experience not to mention what it cost Curtis which was probably more.)

Hopefully I will debut the new car next race with the 170K mile motor. Get ready back markers.

I am now drinking the kool-aid. BW13 still rocks, but passing sure isn't easy under nasa rules.

I am still sore. 6 races in one weekend including the dark half of the 3 hour enduro with only OEM lighting.

No drama to report from the back of the PTE and SM fields. Things looked a little rowdier on the starts further forward.

I'm giving up on SM and going Rally racing cuz I seem to do better in the dirt... Sorry for the mess Sunday on the exit side of "Lost Hills", I guess attempting a pass at the top of the hill is not a good idea.

The 3hr Enduro was a hoot! This was my first enduro in my car so having RJ Racing, a Championship winning team, handling strategy & pit duties made a huge difference in bringing home a 3rd in class. We'll try it again with better lighting.

Saturday sprint race was a great watch from adjacent the "bus stop"... The wire that goes from my coil to the kill switch got loose and killed my race before it even started. Several packs of side-by-side racing with podium spots decided by inches.

The start of Sundays spring race was nuts... Can someone elaborate what happened with J.Barns to send him into the infield? Same with Curtis over hear T6, what happened? Ethan & I had a great battle, great side-by-side in places where it can be touchy. Ethan has developed solid racecraft skills, when he gets that new motor and more seat-time LOOK-OUT!!

Huge thanks to everyone for coming out, looking forward to see you all & hopefully more SM's @ WSR.

From my perspective, I can't add a whole lot more to Angela's video. Basically, we came to green and acccelerated down to T1. Suddenly Clement Lee (the car you see make a sudden right in Angela's video) spears into my left front fender and someone catches the left corner of my rear bumper, tearing it off. I was pushed to the right, coming to a stop in the infield. After I decided that everything seemed pretty firmly bolted on still, I headed back onto the track and pushed hard to move back from DFL to finish 5th.

In impound it came out that Tim Weaver had squeezed between Clement and I, into a space that wasn't there... He hit Clement and that turned him into me, which pushed me to the right. As I speared off to the right, Tim caught my rear bumper, which tore it off.

When all was said and done, clement and I both finished in front of Tim, which was enough for me. Let's just say Tim made an ill-advised move for a hole that wasn't there, and leave it at that. We all make mistakes, and I want to believe that this is exactly what that was.

its a chase cam that louis installed for me.
It is not yet connected to my RLC, brought the wrong cable to Butttonwillow, but i will have it tied to my RLC lap info for BW next time.

I'm excited, it helped me a lot over the course of the weekend to improve. Once i have the predictive lap times tied to the video it will be a great learning device. I will be able to see the outcome of different lines and there impact on my laptimes in realtime.

see you at BW.

Ethan & I had a great battle, great side-by-side in places where it can be touchy. Ethan has developed solid racecraft skills, when he gets that new motor and more seat-time LOOK-OUT!!

Ha you're very kind. I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go but I'll keep chipping away at it each week. [fight]

By the way, thanks for not crashing into me after I so graciously spun right in front of you in cotton corners! I was sure it was going to be a bad one but you nicely did some dirt-tracking to avoid me. Lost three positions on the last lap!!

I think I have some good video of Jeremy's bumper flying across the track, I'll see if I can dig it up.

When all was said and done, clement and I both finished in front of Tim, which was enough for me. Let's just say Tim made an ill-advised move for a hole that wasn't there, and leave it at that. We all make mistakes, and I want to believe that this is exactly what that was.

My video tells a slightly different story.
Looks like Clement might have come over and got into Tim, rather than Tim nudging Clement. As I understand it under NASA rules, that's legal and it's Tim's bad for just being there...

Not sure how you come to that conclusion Rob with your car moving and that far back, its tough to tell. Freeze frame and look at horizan and track locations and you might see something different. Regardless, a racing incident, but a tough place to put a nose in on a start with a rapidly approaching T1

Rob, although my lens could do with some widening, my view shows the direction of Clement's vehicle pretty clearly. Looking at the wall and the dirt/grass at track left in reference to my dash/windshield wiper, I was going straight. Based on the relation between the right of my windshield and Clement's car, Clement also appears to be going straight.

At any rate, with the great group we race with, it's unfortunate to have so much damage on a start. [nope]
