For anyone who is interested in track time at BIR, there is a race next week-end, Sept 8 and 9. For those who have not been there it is a large and interesting track.
It is three miles with a looooong front straight and with corners 1 and 2 being flat at full throttle for a long time. The back side of the track has eight corners. With a large race group it makes for tactical racing as drafting [and bump drafting --if no one is watching] partners a must.
By next year it should be a central division track for SCCA. The lack of certification is pretty silly as the track has very large run off areas.
For this race it is not being run under SCCA sanction. There are only two race groups and and a couple of lapping groups, so there will be hours of track time. With the lapping groups, if you have friends who want to bring their street cars it would make a nice outing.
This is late notice, but Minnesota in the fall --yes, it will already by fall up there by September --- can be a great experience.
